2016 Club Champs
Results are out now on the results page.
Taupo Cycling Club has been asked to hold a special meeting to consider a change to the Club’s constitution (which the current committee supports). The special meeting will be held immediately prior to the commencement of the Club Champs on Sunday 22 May 2016.
The first change to the constitution relates to the commencement of the financial year, which is proposed become 1 January instead of 1 October. This will ensure that the financial year aligns with the membership year.
The second change concerns the timing of the annual general meeting (AGM) which, at present, must be held in either, October, November, or December. At the AGM officers of the Club’s committee are appointed. The timing of the meeting is problematic, as it occurs at a time of year when the spring and summer series are underway, making the transition difficult for the incoming committee. It is proposed that the AGM be held within 6 months of the end of the new financial year – likely to be sometime in May or June (and giving the incoming committee more time to get ready for the spring/summer series).
The resolutions to be voted on are:
1. clause 11.4 of the constitution be amended to provide that the financial year of the Club shall be 1 January to 31 December (commencing 1 January 2016);
2. clause 7.1 of the constitution be amended to provide that the annual general meeting shall be held within 6 months of the end of the financial year (with the next AGM to be held in 2017); and
3. such consequential amendments as are necessary to give effect to the above.
If there are any queries regarding these changes, please feel free to contact any of the Club’s committe
The Taupo Cycling Club approached the Forestry Manager about access to Tram road with the following question:
The Taupo Cycling Club used to ride through Tram road as a group on a Sunday morning ride before it was closed several years ago.
Would it be possible to have access on a Sunday Tmorning on a regular basis, either every Sunday, every second Sunday or once a month.

Dynamo Team Series 2016
Ryan Blair, Nick Hume(Forestland Wheelers Cat 3) Andrew Wilson (Speedworks Diamante Cat 4) and Tony Tinworth (Dynamo Sports Cat 4) have been racing in the Dynamo Events Teams Championship Series. We have just finished Race 5 in Pokeno, and the final race(day) of the series will be on Sunday 3rd April in Tokoroa with a TTT and roadrace.
At this race we will get details of the 2016 series. From speaking to Stephen Cox I understand that Category 4 will change to category 4A and 4B, and it is likely the Elite Women’s grade will be assimilated into the other grades. Category 3 and 4 races are approximately 80km. All races have Leader’s jerseys, Prize money, commissaires , neutral support, managers meeting and very professionally run. Teams can start 6 riders from a roster of 8, top 3 times to decide team placings.
The 2015 series sold out in about 3 weeks – much quicker than expected. The 2015 teams are being offered a place in 2016 championships with a two week acceptance period. I think I have added Taupo Cycling Club to this list.
Taupo Cycling Club are looking for 6 to 16 riders and one or two team managers to allow us to enter to teams – one Cat 4A and one Cat 4B.
- 4A – Tuesday B grade or Competitive C – Looking to win races as individuals and teams
- 4B – Tuesday C working really hard or D grade – Looking to gain experience in racing open events and develop race-craft.
The good thing about teams racing is that a rider can work for team-mates if having an off day, infiltrate/instigate a breakaway if not a strong sprinter, lead out/chase or force the pace to drop opposing team’s riders. You are committing to racing once a month from October-April (excluding Jan)
You need to be 17 or older.
If you would like to be a Manager then you will need to organise a team – Entries, rider liaison, attend races.

Email me if you are wanting to be in – talk to Ryan, Nick, Andrew or Tony if you are not sure.
If there are not sufficient entries I imagine the 4 of us will seek rides elsewhere…this series has been great. email@example.com

Cycle Challenge wrapup
Thank you all who volunteered on Friday evening. It was a great event, and the course was an improvement on the longer course of previous years. Some pretty impressive speeds going down Tongariro street.
Well done to all those who entered & completed the various events - around the lake, MTB etc. Ex Taupo rider, Frank Sutton, had a great ride in the Elite Men & finished a strong 6th, in a very quick time.
Some of our club juniors where part of the Taupo Nui A Tia Relay team that took out 2nd place overall in the 4 person Relay Team event on Saturday in a time of 5 hrs 34 mins, beaten only by a team of 4 men. Their time also placed them 1st in the mixed team division and they were the 1st school team home - earning themselves $500.00. Team members were Jack Edwards (leg 1), Maddy Edwards (leg 2), Joep Lenior (leg 3) and Hannah Howell (leg 4).
Taupo Cycling Club provides activities for cycling enthusiasts.
The club was the major driving force behind the building of the local cycling velodrome. This project was supported by the community, through various fund raising activies.
The goal of the club is to encourage & develop the sport of cycling, through organised activities.
As well as organising weekly rides like the Sunday Morning Social Ride, Tuesday Night Racing and Skills Session or Racing at the Velodrome, the club encourages entry into a variety of local, regional and international cycling events and you can check out the event calendar to find out more.
Keep up to date with everything cycling in the Lake Taupo region by subscribing to our eNewsletter, liking us on Facebook or checking out our Latest News page. Get in touch with Taupo Cycling Club to find out more!

WE NEED YOU!
The Taupo cycling club needs you! We have had a number of our wonderful committee members resign and move away from here.
I know it sounds cliched but we can only run the club on volunteer help.
