We had 6 riders attend the National Road Cycling Champs in Palmerston North, which was held from Thursday 20th October 05 to Sunday 23rd October.
Mike Langley competed in Men Vet 5 Road Race which was held over a 70km course. Mike finished with the second bunch with a very credible time of 2.02.26.
Kevin Strongman & Nik Eliadis both competed in the Mens Vet1 class. In the 25km time trial Nik finished a very competitive 4th only 20 seconds behind the leader, completing the course in a time of 38.15. Kevin completed the course in a strong time of 41.25 coming home in 14th place.
Unfortunately in the road race both Nik & Kevin recorded DNF’s, along with a rather large number of other competitors in this class.
In the Under 17 Boys class Dion Goile turned in some credible times recording a time of 27.21 for the 15km time trial & 2.07 for the 70km road race. A great effort in a very competitive class.
In the Under 15 Boys class, Josh Barnes & Patrick Bevin put in some excellent performances.
In the 10km time trial Josh came home in a time of 16.45, finishing 11th out of the 40 entrants. Patrick didn’t have such a good run, finishing in a time of 19.51.
However Patrick took his revenge in the 35km road race, finishing in second place with a time of 1.01.07, just being piped at the finish by the winner by .01 of a second or an ants whisker! Josh also put in a very strong finish, finishing 8th with a time of 1.01.33.
A great effort by all concerned, hopefully next year we can see a few more members competing in this event.
