Not many riders took advantage of good ahrd aerobic hitout before the challenge on beautiful warm afternoon with no wind.

Grant Nicol had to TT the 50km on his won in the A Group in a time of 1.21.19

In the B Group Graeme Usher won a sprint finish with Mike Langley in 1.32.40, with John Barber 3rd in 1.33.15. Andrew Souren 1.34.50, Ben Anderson 1.39.00, Clive Reid 1.54.40 and Ben Watson completing just the one lap.

Cyclemania Wednesday Track Races

On Wednesday 26 November at 6pm at the velodrome we will be holding a series of track races for all members and visitors of all abilities - there will be races for those using road bikes and those on track bikes, plus plenty of club bikes that can be used. It will be a fun night and a chance for Cycle Challenge entrants to ’spin the legs’ before the main event on Saturday.

Mapara Road Race Saturday November 15

Saturday, 15 November at 2pm for cyclists of all abilities a chance to tune yourself up for the Cycle Challenge.

The circuit is the same as used previously being Poihipi Road, Mapara Road, Tukairangi Road loop, which is 25km per lap. The start and finish is at the Poihipi Road end of Tukairangi Road. Juniors and ‘relay riders’ have the choice of 1 lap, 25km and the seniors 2 laps or 50km.

Senior non-members to pay $5 entry, junior non-members $2 and members free entry.

7 laps clockwise with strong headwind up the main straight a big group 1 were given 4 min handicap and were not caught by about 1 min maybe due to several strong riders giving a good draft up the main straight.

Spud was quickest in 39.10min, Mike and Graeme next in 39.12 and Bevan 39.55. From Group1 Crunchie, Greg, Ian, Don and Ben all close in just over 42min.

A beautifully calm and clear night - we didn’t need to turn our lights on until about 5 laps into the race.

Kelvin, Jo, Crunchy, Sheryl, Ken and Paul all started as Group 1 and raced? 6 laps in 35.02min

Groups 2 and 3 raced 7 laps with Spud, Josh and Nick winning ‘on the road’ in a time of 36.55min - they had a 4min start? on the scratch group who were led home by Paddy who did the fastest net time of the night - 33.15min with Wayne next in 33.20?
